Approximately 15,000 large, expandable envelopes containing diverse material relating to Broadway and Off-Broadway productions in New York City. The collection is particularly strong in Broadway productions with almost all Broadway shows of the 19th and 20th centuries represented. Material for Off-Broadway plays is incomplete. The materials, generally printed, include first night playbills, souvenir books, illustrations or photographs, reviews, printed advertisements, sheet music, scripts, press releases, magazine articles, and news clippings. All productions of most major plays which occurred in New York City are represented. Productions of these plays which also were performed outside New York are represented by peripheral material, as are movie versions of theatrical productions.
