Bridge construction photograph collection, [ca. 1900-1930]

Extensive collection of photographs in 50 volumes taken by or for the New York City government illustrating step-by-step construction of bridges built in New York City. Some photographs show repair work. Major East River bridges represented are the Williamsburg Bridge, Queensboro Bridge and Manhattan Bridge. Less well-known bridges are also portrayed. Photographs document surrounding neighborhoods where bridges are located and demonstrate changes which occurred before, during, and after construction. In addition, subway connections to bridges, viaducts, and the Staten Island Trolley Line are illustrated in instances when they are connected to bridge construction.
