Typescript with autograph corrections including changes in punctuation and changes and deletions to a 41-word insertion in Hemingway's hand. At the head of the first page, Hemingway has written, "First U.S. serial rights only. 10,497 words." The story was written in Paris in 1938 Oct. It is a short story of the Spanish Civil War that first appeared in the February 1939 issue of Esquire. This story is the last in a series with Chicote's bar in Madrid used as a backdrop.
