Regent's charter and incorporation files, [ca. 1912-2004]

This series documents the incorporation and/or dissolution of educational corporations formed by the Regents. Typically a file contains a petition for a provisional or absolute charter, a copy of the Regents resolution granting or revoking a charter, and correspondence and amendments to a charter. Files occasionally include background material demonstrating the educational character of the applicant, and/or documents relating to the distribution of assets of a corporation being dissolved.

Education Law, section 216, empowers the Board of Regents to incorporate colleges, schools, libraries, museums, and other education corporations. The incorporation document is called a charter.
