Records of an ad hoc committee of students, alumni, and others at Kent State University (Ohio) organized to aid in the effort to establish an appropriate memorial to the four students killed during an anti-war demonstration on the campus on May 4, 1970. The committee also endeavored to educate the public about that event and its aftermath, and about the history of the memorial controversy. The collection documents the committee's fundraising and educational efforts, and includes chronologies of events, posters, clippings, correspondence, press releases, fundraising letters, advertisements, petitions, a speech by Glenn W. Frank, information packets, a color photocopy of a photograph of a demonstration, and buttons.

The 20th Commemoration of the Kent State shootings, held in 1990, remains one of the largest-attended of all the annual gatherings. Preparations had begun a few years in advance, culminating in the creation of the May 4 20th Anniversary Commission, at the behest of President Michael Schwartz, in 1989.
