AD. Account Roll. 1774 May 25-1777 May 24. British Army in North America.

The official roll of Chamier's dispursements, showing the cost of the war during the command of Sir William Howe. There are many names, not only of officials, but of those from whom purchases were made, and there is a check list of those who traded with the British forces during the earlier period of the war. The record gives particulars of rents paid for offices, storage, a brewery; for grazing cattle, fields of grass, for encampment on the Heights of Charlestown in June, 1775; for ironwork and carpentry; for food, drink, grains, and sundry provisions. The entries relate to all parts of America in connection with the British army, and show the cost of running the department from Halifax southward to Charleston and westward to Detroit. This document is considered one of the best in existence to show the cost of the war to the British.

14 skins vellum ; 86 x 28 cm. each skin.
