Massachusetts State House : postcards, ca. 1900-1990.

The collection comprises nearly 200 postcards showing various views of the State House over roughly a 100 year span. The collection features views of the State House facade, as well as views from Beacon, Bowdoin, Park, and Tremont Streets. Images of the interior of the State House, such as the House of Representatives, and exterior artwork, namely the Shaw Memorial, are also included. Of particular interest is a group of postcards depicting Massachusetts politicians, such as Governor Frank Sargent, Lieutenant Governor Elliot Richardson, Attorney General Paul A. Dever, Secretary of State Joseph D. Ward, Senator Walter L. Considine, and Senator George W. Stanton. Oversize postcards and a first-day cover and stamps, issued June of 1979, with illustrations of the Massachusetts State House, are housed in an accompanying envelope.
