The Jane Lucas de Grummond Papers contain research materials used for the editing of the journal of John G.A. Williamson, first diplomatic representative of the United States to Venezuela; letters from and clippings on Rudolph Dolge, American collector of Venezolana; and copies of some of de Grummond's articles. It contains Venezuelan newspapers, clippings, and periodicals dealing with Venezuelan politics in 1958 and Jane de Grummond's correspondence, personal records, resource materials, teaching materials, and writings between 1907 and 1990. Lastly, the papers include inscribed copies of three of her books: Envoy to Caracas: The Story of John G.A. Williamson, Nineteenth-Century Diplomat; Solitude: Life on a Plantation in Louisiana, 1788-1968; and Caracas Diary, 1835-1840: The Journal of John G.A. Williamson, First Diplomatic Representative of the United States to Venezuela.

Jane Lucas de Grummond (1905-1991) was the first woman to receive a Ph.D. from the Louisiana State University History Department (1946) and its first female faculty member. She was professor of Latin American history at LSU from 1942 to 1976. She wrote on the histories of Venezuela and Louisiana during the 19th century.
