Thaddeus Kosciusko Oglesby letter, 1909.

This collection consists of a letter from S.J. Harrison to Thaddeus Kosciusko Oglesby, 1909, regarding a monument erected in Palmyra to the "Ten Martyrs." Harrison requests a copy of Oglesby's book containing the story of the manacling of Jefferson Davis on his capture; the book to which Harrison refers is Oglesby's Some Truths of History... (1903). Burton N. Harrison, Jefferson Davis' secretary, was S.J. Harrison's first cousin.

Thaddeus K. Oglesby (1848-1920) was born in Missouri but spent most of his life in Georgia. His father was the Superintendent of Schools in Fort Gaines, Georgia. Oglesby enlisted in Company A, Cobb's Guard, of the Georgia Infantry in August, 1864, served with the 24th Georgia Regiment of Artillery, and was paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina in April 1865.
