Joseph Cornell letters : Flushing (N.Y.), to Charles Henri Ford, 1938-1957.

Letters to the poet Charles Henri Ford include significant discussion of work in progress, literary and musical interests, and collaborative projects for the journal View, edited by Ford. Cornell mentions work on montages, objects, shadow boxes and experimental montage films, and discusses in some detail his illustrations for Ford's poetry. Cornell suggests the influence of Max Ernst on his montages while disclaiming any interest in the "black magic" of Andre Breton and Salvador Dali, and expressing admiration for Carmen Miranda. There are frequent references to Ford's friend Pavel Tchelitchew, and one letter is addressed to him. Several of the letters include pasted-on materials. In chronological order.
