Waterbury at Athens, N.Y. writes to General Miller. "...I have been very much worried Hoffman should be renominated and the reign of the king restored. My idea was that the way to beat him and secure a sound state to things was to bring forward Seymour. Therefore I wanted to visit you and with you go to see Seymour. I found however that there was a move to run Church and that it would be successful unless Seymour were interposed, which I did not think it wise to do."
