H.M.S. Pinafore cards, ca.1880.

A stack of 32 cards, each decorated with one or more characters from the Gilbert and Sullivan work H.M.S. Pinafore. The characters are named and a little bit is added about them (Little Buttercup, a Portsmouth Bumboat woman, Ralph Rackstraw, able seaman). The cards are divided into groups numbered 1-8, with 4 cards per group. (Four cards are numbered 1, another four are numbered 2, etc.) They are not in a box, and no publishers name is given. It is not known if these were to be playing cards or cards for collecting. The last two cards depict the ship itself and a cat-o-nine-tails.

32 items : chiefly ill. ; 11 cm.
