A typescript copy of a masters thesis, 1930, submitted to Miami University discussing the distribution, organization and administration of the British Army in America from 1763-1774. It focuses on the difficulties encountered while maintaining approximately 10,000 troops in the effective performance of their duties including the policing of trade routes, the protection of frontiers from foriegn invasion and the preservation of peace among hostile Indians. It further proposes to explain the sale and purchase of commissions in the army while discussing the problems of desertion and recruiting.

Harry Allen Smith was born December 19, 1907, in McLeansboro, Illinois, and in 1929 he began work with the United Press as a rewrite man.
