Letter, 1860 January 18.

In a letter to Mason W., D. Root at Chesire, Ct. writes; "...I rejoice to see her delegation in Congress standing firm for the right and not yielding an inch to the unreasonable demand of the slavocracy. ...If you could hear the voice of New England and the Great Northwest on the subject, it would come down to in one united, long, loud, and wailing cry of, no compromises, no backing down from our excellent platform of principles, no conceding one hair to the outrageous, insulting, most wicked demands and devices of 347,000 slaveholders who for the last thirty years have uprighteously weilded the power, purse, and patronage of the nation."
