The records provide information on the early history of the Genetics Society of America, which grew out of the combination of the Joint Genetics Section of the American Society of Zoologists and the Botanical Society of America. From its official founding in 1932, there are extensive records of this organization: correspondence between various officers, members, and outside people and organizations; files on the standing and ad hoc committees; records concerning accounts and finances; data on the membership; files relating to annual meetings, local meetings, and international meetings; special commissions or ad hoc groups of the Society, especially the 1974/75 Committee on Genetics, Race, and Intelligence (in Box #37: contains background material, extensive correspondence, and draft resolutions). The subject interests of the Society and its membership are numerous. There is much in the collection on contemporary as well as longstanding issues.
