Letters and poems, 1917-1928.

Twenty-three holograph letters and two poems; fifteen to the poet Vivian Locke Ellis and eight to the poet Edward Myerstein. The letters contain lengthy commentaries on Ellis' poetry and reflections on Freeman's own work. Freeman also discusses his own work at length focussing on his plans to publish the poetical and prose works of Edward Thomas and Freeman's own memorial volume on Thomas.

John Freeman, British poet and critic, published his first work, Twenty poems in 1909. He subsequently published 10 more volumes of poetry. Freeman has written several works of literary citicism including, The moderns (1916) Herman Melville (1926), and several introductions. He has also published reviews in journals including the Bookman, The Spectator and the London Mercury.
