Letters, 1799 October 26 - 1800 September 11.

Three letters, consisting of a draft of one from North to Henry Dundas and copies of two from Dundas to North, marked private. North discusses his difficulties in the administration of Justice in Ceylon, and asks for assistance. Dundas acknowledges North's reports on the Pearl Fishery and discusses the accusation against Mr. Cleghorn that he purloined a set of pearls for Lady Jane Dundas. The second letter of Dundas relates to the Government of Ceylon and suggests that it should be on the same footing as the Cape of Good Hope. Mr. Arbuthnot was to succeed Cleghorn, and Sir C.E. Carrington was to be appointed Chief Justice of Ceylon.
