Massachusetts. Historical Commissions. National Register nomination files (municipal historical commission scheduled item).

Pursuant to the provisions of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, municipal historical commissions may initiate the nomination process for the inclusion of properties in the National Register of Historic Places by contacting the Massachusetts Historical Commission (MHC). If MHC finds that the property meets the criteria for the National Register, the local historical commission submits a formal application to MHC, which then submits nominations to the National Park Service (NPS) for its decision.
