Certificates admitting Sanford as a Solicitor of the Court of Chancery, 1799; Counsellor at Law, 1801; Attorney at Law, 1799; and member of the Free School Society of New York, 1810. Commissioners appointing Sanford as Commissioner of Bankruptcy, District of New York, 1802; and Chancellor of the State of New York. Also included is Sanford's diploma for the degree of Doctor of Laws from Columbia College, 1823. Four letters from Sanford to his son Edward are included as are various documents relating to Edward. Among these items is Edward's 1824 diploma from Concord College, Schenectady, N.Y.; his appointment as Commissioner of Deeds for the City of New York; and his license as a Solicitor in the Court of Chancery of the State of New York. Of particular interest are several broadsides dealing with the Tammany Society; a diagram of the New York State Senate Chamber in 1846; and several items in Masonic code from the "Honorable and Ancient Court of Dover."
