David Wellington Torrey was born in Deer Isle, Maine in 1904, the son of Daniel W. and Elizabeth Barbour Torrey Sr. He graduated with a B.S. degree in Dairy Husbandry from the University of Maine in 1927. He served for 30 years as a naval aviator in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring in 1959 as a brigadier general. He died in 1979. From the description of Memoirs, 1968. (Unknown).
