The Governor is the chief executive of the state whose function is to administer the laws of the state. One of the activities used to accomplish this function is the litigating of disputes or other suits in a court of law. This series consists of files created on cases involving or of interest to the governor. Types of material included are briefs, case exhibits, correspondence, affidavits, pleadings, and other documents used for litigation. The series also contains research material used by the governor's legal staff to prepare for litigation. Many of the cases in this series were carried over from Governor Guy Hunt's administration. Alvin Holmes vs Guy Hunt, the case regarding the Confederate flag flying over the state capitol building, is one of the holdover cases. Alice McKinney (ADECA) vs Jim Folsom, et al., is a prominent case regarding a job discrimination suit. Several other cases deal with contract disputes between vendors and the state of Alabama. Superior Security Services, Inc. vs Dept. of Finance, Division of Purchasing and Kent Rose is one of the cases concerning contract disputes.
