Business and personal correspondence of J.A. Howard, both his letters and letters addressed to him. Much of the correspondence discusses land for sale in the Willamette Valley, including Albany and Portland, Ore. Many other companies in Oregon and Washington are represented including the Linn County Orchard Colony, the Oregon City Manufacturing Company, and the Pacific Monthly magazine. Several pieces of the correspondence are queries for information about the area from people interested in moving to Oregon. There is also one letter from the Union Pacific Railroad Company regarding the growing numbers of people moving to the West. The group also includes seven pieces of ephemera.
