This collection, 1836-1939, contains documentation of meetings, functions, and activities; membership records; letters; financial records; publications; newspaper articles; books; and photographs concerning the Montgomery True Blues. The largest series in the collection includes the scrapbook and minute books. The scrapbooks show the activities of the True Blues through newspaper clippings, publications, records, and letters. The minute books record planned and past activities, and company membership. The Reserve Corps records book covers the activities of the Montgomery True Blues Reserve Corps. The entire history of the True Blues is well documented throughout the collection.

Thomas Goode Jones was born on 1844 Nov. 26 at Macon, Ga. He was educated by tutors, Mongomery, Ala. schools, the schools of Dr. Charles Minor and Gesner Harrison in Virginia, and the Virginia Military Institute. Within months of joining the Confederate Army he rose to the rank of major. Following the war, he served as captain of the Montgomery Greys, Co. A., Second Regiment, Ala. Montgomery True Blues (1836-193 ).

The Montgomery True Blues were chartered by the Ala. Legislature on 1836 Feb. 20 in response to the Creek Indian War. They were not outfitted in time to serve in that war, but they did see action in the Florida Seminole War of 1837. The True Blues volunteered their services in Mobile for the Mexican War, but were not accepted because of a surplus of Federal troops available.
