Papers, 1821-1860.

Papers consisting of letters, a bank draft, a S.C. militia commission certificate and a regimental order. Most of the letters are to B.F. Treadwell, address usually unknown, from a variety of people and variously dated. Topics discussed include "The Cause," the weather, an invitation to visit, and raising men and money for a militia company in Ala. The 1836 S.C. militia commission is for B.F. Treadwell and is signed by Gov. George McDuffie. The regimental order is dated 1836 Sept. 19 and directs the 14th Regiment of the S.C. Militia to assemble at Orangeburgh, S.C. for a review on 1836 Oct. 13. One undated letter indicates Treadwell has been given an honorary membership in the Eufaula, Ala. City Guards. An 1860 Jan. 7 bank draft for $3059.00 is drawn on the Eastern Bank of Eufaula and is signed by B.F. Treadwell.
