Collection of correspondence and manuscripts of various Episcopal clergymen. Although the majority of the collection deals with Virginia and other Southern states, there are scattered pieces relating to Episcopalian clergy in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Lower Canada. Included are materials related to the Monumental Episcopalian Church (Richmond. Va.), St. James's Episcopal Church (Richmond, Va.), St. John's Church (Hampton, Va.), Virginia Council of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew, the Southern Churchman and other publications and institutions of Episcopal Church, particularly in the diocese of Virginia. There are only a few pieces relating to the Civil War.

Wirt County was named for William Wirt, who gained fame in Virgtinia as a lawyer and perhaps is best known for his role in the prosecution of Aaron burr for treason.
