Reminiscence of this Universalist Unitarian minister of the mysterious materialization of a "Flaming Satan" at several Minnesota dance halls during 1920-1921, particularly a sighting near Hutchinson in the fall of 1921, and a possible explanation of the appearances. Although Mondale was not present at any of the sightings, he quotes several witnesses and from newspapers of the day. Since the dances usually took place on Sunday evenings, the theme of punishment for desecrating the Sabbath recurs several times in the testimony and Mondale's comments.
