Letter written at Onondaga Castle to Samuel J. Tilden. "I understand the Indians on the Onondaga Reservation have asked for my appointment as their agent. I have taken no particular steps to secure the appointment, yet should the appointment be given me, I could serve them as well and in some respects better than almost any other man."
