Papers consist of correspondence, diaries, notebooks, essays, poetry and verse, sketches, accounts, bills and receipts, and newspaper clippings related to the artistic and literary endeavors of Thomas Cole. Also included are an 1827 sketchbook, miscellaneous sketches, exhibit registers and catalogs, and articles and catalogs from exhibits of his work after his death. The sketches include rough versions of typical Cole landscape paintings.
