Letter, 1849 June 12.

Letter to William F. Johnson, Governor of Pennsylvania. Johnson had petitioned Fish for the extradition of one Alexander Snyder to Pennsylvania on the charge of petty fraud. In this letter Fish discusses, in detail, his reasons for not honoring the extradition request. The letter provides a lengthy discussion of Fish's views on the fourth article of the U.S. Constitution and the use of English Common Law in interpreting the Constitution.
