Includes a carbon typed letter from Harper's editor Frederick Lewis Allen to De Voto, De Voto's reply, and a related letter from De Voto to Larrabee; Larrabee apparently was also working at Harper's at the time. Also includes a 1978 letter of explanation from Larrabee. At issue was the choice of an excerpt from COURSE OF EMPIRE to be reprinted in Harper's.
