Correspondence, subject and background files, reports, and publicity files documenting the division's role as state coordinator of this Work Projects Administration (WPA) assisted program. The program had two phases: 1) to provide assistance to already existing libraries by supplying workers to assist in keeping libraries open longer hours and release the professional librarians from routine duties; and 2) to implement the county library demonstration project, which provided a sample county library to those areas of the state without any public library service. The latter was aimed at the permanent establishment of county library service.
