The diary begins on April 23, 1852, near Iowa, and relates the daily life and major events of the trip to Fort Vancouver, which they reached in late November of the same year. Included is a 1950 newsclip from the Berkeley Daily Gazette, summarizing the relationships of the people to those still alive.
