This collection consists of a cover letter (1 leaf), a letter from T. H. Watts to his niece (Miriam Holt Michaels) (14 leaves), photographs of Dr. John Walter Michaels (1 leaf), a biographical sketch of John W. Michaels (2 leaves), and by-laws for "The Deaf Christian Band" (2 leaves). The letter contains a description of sectional differences that flared up in Indiana in the Civil War period. John W. Michaels was a leader in the education of the deaf in Arkansas. Also included is correspondence to various Virginia officials concerning the designation of the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind as a historical landmark, a copy of THE BAPTIST MESSEHGER newsletter, which includes biographical information on Dr. John W. Michaels, photographs of muskets anhd swords, and an alumni newsletter from the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind.
