In 1855 Brigham Young (1801-1877) called a group of missionaries to Lemhi County, Idaho to preach to the Shoshoni and Bannock Indians. The Mormon missionaries built a fort there, Fort Lemhi, and found the Indians to be friendly and receptive to their message.
