The collection consists of six letters, August 11, 1861 to August, 1862, written by sailor George Weber, on board the Confederate steamship Patrick Henry to his brother, Louis. Family matters as well as the ship's crew and military engagements are discussed. In the famous sea battle in which the Merrimac sank the frigate, the Cumberland, Weber was virtually an eye-witness as his ship did battle with another ship, the Minnesota.
