Letter, 1864.

Letter from C. W. Wandell to James Duane Doty, Governor of Utah Territory, concerning his suitability to be appointed Associate Justice of the territory or Postmaster of Salt Lake City. He affirms his loyalty to the Union and to the present administration. Further, Wandell states he "has not hesitated to rebuke the veiled treason existing in Utah."

James Duane Doty (1799-1865) was a lawyer, judge, and government official. He represented Wisconsin in Congress between 1838 and 1841, and again between 1849 and 1853.
