Automobile technical files--automobile gasoline, 1929-1981.

The records document Consumers' Research's testing, research, and projects relating to the use and performance of gasoline in automobiles. Included are correspondence, notes, magazine and newspaper articles, test forms, and purchase orders. Subjects include various brands of gasoline, gasoline additives, gasoline consumption, octane number and detonation requirements, anti-knock gas, statistics, testing methods, gasoline hazards and gasoline projects (1930-1950) including testing of leaded, summer and winter gasoline in the 1930s. Some gasoline projects include tests on oil (1938-1940). Also included are preliminary and final drafts of the 1932 report on gas. Material concerning automobiles and their performance is included in the files from the 1960s and 1970s.
