Includes correspondence, festschrift, reprints of scientific articles, manuscripts of three books by Chapman, scientific data, lecture notes and other notebooks, motion pictures, as well as a wide assortment of graphic material--photographs, negatives, lantern slides, and diagrams--used by Chapman to illustrate his lectures before college, scientific, and civic audiences. Main topics: auroras, barometric pressure (measurement data), geomagnetism, history of physics, and the International Geophysical Year (1955-1959). As president of the International Geophysical Year, Chapman was involved in all aspects of planning and implementing International Geophysical Year scientific and technical investigations.
