Ledger was first used as a directory of names, primarily business contacts for Mott. Next to each name are numbers which refer to the pages which contain entries for that name. The entries which follow are either brief notations or letters signed by William B. Mott or Edward Mott. The first entry is dated June 29, 1792 and the last, July 15, 1829. Mott appears to have been born in England, but most of the entries stem from Philadelphia. Many pages are obliterated by clippings pasted over the entries, presumably by Elizabeth Mott and used as a scrapbook which includes engravings, poems, short stories, proverbs, advice columns, etc. The ledger closes with two pages of obituary clippings (includes one for William B. Mott), followed by two pages of autograph poetry.
