Wenzel Petran and family papers, 1849-1964.

Correspondence, genealogical data, printed items, and miscellany relating to the family of Wenzel Petran, who immigrated to New York State from Germany in 1849 and settled in St. Anthony (Minn.) in 1855. Most of the letters, written in German and accompanied by translations, contain his impressions of life in America in the 1850s, with information on family matters, attitudes toward immigrants, the Civil War, and employment.
