Clothing technical files--clothing and accessories, 1931-1981.

The records document Consumers' Research's testing, research, and projects relating to clothing and related accessories. Included are correspondence, notes, magazine and newspaper clippings, charts comparing various brands of clothing, test results, advertisements, fabric swatches, lab notebooks, photographs, test drawings, purchase orders, a disposable diaper, nylon samples, tie samples and other fragments of clothing. Product files include men's suits, slacks, shirts, work clothes, pajamas, suspenders, ties, underwear, and socks; New York City Police Department uniforms, women's hosiery, stockings, nylons, footlets, bras, girdles, dresses, blouses, slips, blue jeans, and swimming suits; and children's bottles, underwear, diapers, and knit shirts. Other subjects included are hats, gloves, rubber gloves, sweaters, men's overcoats, women's overcoats, fur, raincoats, jewelry, luggage, wallets, watches, digital and quartz watches and various timepieces. Files on test methods, clothing, clothing hazards, garment sizing, and permanent press clothing are also included.
