Alabama associations collection, 1850-1985.

This collection contains publications of various associations in Alabama. It includes publications of the Alabama Educational Association, Alabama Medical Association, Alabama State Bar Association, American Clan Gregor Society, American Legion, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. These are some of the larger groupings of publications. There are numerous publications from other associations. There is a small set of pamphlets published by the Alabama Communist Party in 1942. Also included is a "Who's Who" listing of the Rotary Club of Montgomery of 1916.

The Southern Cross of Honor award, which later became the Cross of Military Service, originated on Oct. 13, 1862 as an act of the Confederate Congress to recognize the courage and good conduct of officers, non-commissioned officers and privates of the Confederate army.
