Executive orders for revocation of convict parole, 1931-1939.

"Upon the failure of any convict to observe the conditions of his parole, to be determined by the governor, the governor shall have authority to direct the re-arrest and return of such convict to custody, and thereupon said convict shall be required to carry out the sentence of the court as though no parole had been granted him..." (Ala. Code, Chapter 202, Section 5133 [1923]). An executive order may grant or revoke pardon or parole. This series consists of executive orders for the revocation of parole. Each order lists the prisoner's name, county, crime, date convicted, sentence, and gives a reason for revoking the parole along with the governor's signature, the date, the date paroled, and the attesting mark of the secretary of state. These records were created under the Board of Pardons (1901-1935), and the Parole Bureau (1935-1939) during the administrations of Governors Benjamin Meek Miller (1931-1935 and Bibb Graves (1935-1939).
