Reports of smallpox cases, 1893-1894.

The State Board of Health as part of its function to control and prevent disease required municipal boards of health to notify the board of the occurance of a case of smallpox within twenty-four hours (St 1883, c 138). Reports record this required information, as well as similar information from other state agencies.

The State Board of Health, established in 1869, was abolished in 1879, and its functions absorbed by the State Board of Health, Lunacy, and Charity until 1886, when its was re-established.
