Cartographic and Audiovisual Records.

Cartographic records (18 items) comprise a published geological map of Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota by David Dale Owen, the principal geologist of the U.S. Geological Corps, and others, 1851; published maps of the Eastern United States and adjacent areas in Canada and Mexico, prepared to accompany Israel Andrew's report on trade and commerce of the British North American Colonies, 1852-53; a published map of the United States, showing customs collection districts and ports of entry and delivery, 1883; and maps prepared or used by special agents, including miscellaneous maps of the parts of Louisiana along the Mississippi River, published General Land Office maps of Louisiana and Florida, manuscript maps showing locations of Government farms for freedmen in the First and Second Districts of Negro Affairs of the Department of Virginia and North Carolina, and maps of land districts along the Mississippi River in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, showing abandoned, leased and abandoned, and other plantations, 1860-74. There are photographs (372 items) that illustrate departmental activities, 1804-1918, and of Indian delegates to Washington, D.C., 1875. Included are motion pictures (54 reels) used in defense and Victory bond promotional drives, relating to activities on the homefront and in the theaters of operations during World War II, and postwar activities in the United States and abroad, 1941-48. There are also sound recordings (86 items) of dramatic and musical radio broadcasts promoting purchase of defense and Victory bonds and featuring many prominent entertainers, including samples of "Treasury Salute," "Treasury Star Parade," "I Pledge America," "Any Bonds Today?" and "Guest Star," the recorded radio programs sponsored by the Treasury Department, 1941-48; the voices of Members of the U.S. Senate, Cabinet members, and other distinguished persons; a rendition of the last message from Corregidor before its surrender May 5, 1942; and the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the U.S. saving bonds program, 1961.
