John Randolph Haynes Papers, 1890-1937

John Randolph Haynes (1853-1937) was involved with incorporating initiative, referendum, and recall amendments in the Los Angeles City Charter (1903), and was a member of the Los Angeles County Probation Committee (1915-25), a member and president of the Los Angeles Civil Service Commission (1903-15), a member of the Los Angeles Board of Water and Power Commissioners (1925), a member of the Metropolitan Water District Board (1928-30), a member of the University of California Board of Regents (1923-37), and founded the John Randolph Haynes and Dora Haynes Foundation (1926). The collection consists of correspondence, minutes, notes, reports, speeches, a scrapbook, and printed material related to Haynes's involvement with local and regional planning in Southern California. The collection also includes material related to the John Randolph Haynes and Dora Haynes Foundation.
