William P. Longmire Papers, 1944-1994

William Polk Longmire Jr. (b.1913) was a professor of surgery at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (1943-48), and chairman of the department of Surgery at UCLA (1943-1948). He also served as chairman of the American Board of Surgery (1961-62), and was a fellow (1961-62), regent (1962-71), chairman of the board of regents (1969-71), and president (1971-73) of the American College of Surgeons. The collection consists of Longmire's papers, notes, correspondence, appointment diaries, organizational materials, personal materials, speeches, video and audio tapes, 16mm films, lecture material, and photographs.
