Music has been at the center of the lives of Edith Gutierrez and her daughter, Pauline Oliveros. Gutierrez has taught piano for much of her life, played professionally, and was active in the Houston music scene. Oliveros, whom Gutierrez had with her first husband, J.B. Edith Gutierrez comes from a musical family, and has taught music for much of her life. Both of her parents were musicians, and her daughter, Pauline Oliveros, is a world-famous composer.
