The Study Commission on University Government Records includes meeting minutes, reports, research materials, and memos related to the committee's effort to reimagine the system of university governance in place at North Carolina State University. There is also a limited amount of correspondence. Given the nature of the collection, duplicates exist throughout. Materials date from 1966 to 1974, but the bulk of the materials fall between 1971 and 1973, the years of the Commission's activities. The Study Commission on University Government worked from 1971 to 1973 to address the concerns of faculty, students and administrators regarding the structure and processes of internal university governance. Chancellor John Tyler Caldwell specifically tasked the Commission with developing recommendations on mechanisms for the establishment of policies. The Commission's report was published in May 1973.
