North Carolina State University, Student and Other Organizations, George V. Holloman Squadron, Silver Wings (Angel Flight) Records 1964-1971

The records of the North Carolina State University Silver Wings (Angel Flight) chapter contain four scrapbooks and one folder of miscellaneous photographs. Scrapbooks include photos, correspondence and cards, fliers, pamphlets, and miscellaneous ephemera, mostly documenting the social activities of Angel Flight members. Angel Flight members worked in conjunction with the Air Force R.O.T.C. program to encourage male students to volunteer for military service. Interest in forming a chapter of Angel Flight at NC State began in 1961, but it was not until 1964 that enough women pledged for an official chapter to be granted. NC State's chapter of Angel Flight remains active as of 2008, though a reworking of the national organization in the 1980s led to a name change; some chapters around the country have retained the name Angel Flight, but most, including State's, now go by the name Silver Wings.
